To be fair to the game, I trust these guys at PSM3 and their love of the SSX games. Its interesting they have seen the game in motion and seem to like what they have seen - although we're gonna have to wait until next month to find out more.

Love the concept artwork :D I was a bit worried about it all being bland tracks but the image gives it a bit of atmosphere.

Quote:
What have EA done to our favourite PS2 game SSX?

Dont panic. We’ve got good news about SSX Deadly Decents.

No fireworks, No neon. No glowing snowflakes. Youd be forgiven for thinking that EA’s hugely anticipated next-gen SSX sequel throws away everything that made the originals so great. While the new look is darker and more realistic, we’re pleased to report that we’ve seen SSX Deadly Decents running and - as huge fans of the original - have great news to share. Bad news? it’ll have to wait until next month.

Violent but deadly
What we can confirm, as hinted by the announcement trailer at the VGA awards, is the game focuses more onyour battle against the elements; combining snowboarding with ice pick climbing and - nerk - flying, via your squirrel suit. It sounds mad, and a long way from the high speed, tricky flicking, combo-chasing of SSX Tricky, but rest easy - EA know fans are clamouring for this game (its the companys most requested sequel ever) and have lots of surprises in store. Tune back next month for an exclusive - and tantalising - insight into the rebirth of one of the PS2’s greatest games.
Next Issue is on sale Feb 3rd

the concept art reminds me of some of the concept art from 3.

The concept art always looks great no matter what. I just believe I can finally have some of that concept art finally translated into the real game, because of the processing power console have now. I had been thinking just how good and how close to concept are we could get on a PC, but I never expected the game to come out on in, and after reading the preview it sounds like EA Canada has some impressive technology around.

That article gets me pumped more than those 10 pages.

One full preview and one tease later, I've heard far more about what the game's controls aren't than I have what they actually are.

Word to that - and in a game like SSX, that's not always a good thing. It may be they are still a work in progress, given that there's a year left to development, a lot of changes can be made, so it's too early to lament anything.

Good point.

Hopefully all the whining, griping and gnashing of teeth have made EA reconsider a few things, hence, no info yet shedding light on controls.

Oh, they sound really really optimistic. I gotta admit, even in my worst case scenario I wouldn't except anything below 85% or a B in reviews.

I don't know why people are so worried about the controls. If they didn't mess up one thing, then it's the controls. SSX Tricky, SSX 3, On Tour, Blur, all had a great gameplay.

What I worry about is the atmosphere. I think most people simply want a new SSX Tricky with the stunning diversity of SSX 3, and the freedom of SSX on Tour.

Emu, who's the lady in your signature? Looks like Kaori, but a bit older.

On Tour definitely didn't have great gameplay and Blur was seriously hampered by it's controls which in turn made the gameplay suffer.

What freedom :??? SSX3 had the most freedom of any of the SSX games.

I spose in OT, you cold go from top to bottom and in a few different paths. 3 only gave you the one set path from top to bottom....if that's what was implied.

Is it concept for DD, another SSX or another game, I like it whatever its from

EGMihas a supplemental interview with the creative director.

(Tip of the cap to NeoGAF for the link.)

Still nothing about the controls, but it does give me some hope that they will carry over some of the look and feel of Tricky/3 into the new game. The new picture of Elise looks like one of her outfits from 3, if memory serves.
