SSX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RULES The SSX World Championship requires players to achieve their highest scores on six tracks of the Showoff Mode (a.k.a. trick) while using only skill. All cheat codes, GameShark manipulations, and programming glitches are banned from this contest. Only the player's highest-score achieved during this contest will be accepted. Videotaped submissions from all finalists will be examined frame-by-frame to insure that these rules are adhered to. Twin Galaxies reserves the right to alter or append any contest rules for the SSX World Championship should any new glitches, cheats or gameplay irregularities surface that hamper the process of score verification. Twin Galaxies will be ranking records based on highest score or fastest time attained, regardless of choice of board/truck/driver/vehicle. It is the choice of the player which board/driver/vehicle they utilize in pursuit of their records. However, for tracking purposes, Twin Galaxies will maintain the player's choices of vehicle for future reference and database integrity. 1. Winners of the SSX World Championship (SXWC) The SSXWC is a high-score tournament conducted on multiple courses and challenges contained within the PS2 edition. The following winners will be published in the Twin Galaxies' Official Video Game & Pinball Book of World Records: The top 50 Players on the NTSC PS2 platform The top 50 Players on the PAL PS2 platform, should such scores be submitted. It should be noted that the winner(s) of the contest are not guaranteed first place in the book because later scores received before August 31st, the book's publishing deadline, will also have the same right to usurp the first place position. However, a special section is reserved within the book to mention the verified contest winners as of the competition deadline. Detailed breakdown of winning slots: NTSC PS2 (50 spots) 1. Elysium Alps "Showoff Mode, a.k.a. trick Mode) " (20 spots reserved in the Book) 2. Other five tracks in Showoff Mode will each receive five slots per top five finishers on each track (25 spots reserved in the Book) 3. Five top combined finishers. PAL PS2 (50 spots) 1. 2. Prizes If sponsors step foward and commit cash prize monies, then Twin Galaxies will hand out cash prizes. Otherwise, Twin Galaxies, who is primarily conducting the contest in order to identify the world record holders for the Book of Records, will hand out awards for NTSC and PAL winners as described below. Award Certificates Ornate, custom-made certificates given to the top finishers in the following events: 1. Elysium Alps "Showoff Mode," (top three for this track) 2. Only top finisher on each track will receive one certificate (five recipients total) 3. Awards will be given to the top five people with the highest verified cumulative totals on all six Showoff mode courses combined, thereby crowning a "true SSX World Champion." 3. Twin Galaxies Tournament Settings (TGTS) NOTE: When you send in your videotaped submission, you will also videotape the record database after completion of your game so that the referee can further authenticate the setting on which your score was accomplished. You should also record from the main screen so that the difficulty level is evident before beginning your game. 4. Tactics Which Are BANNED and Those Which Are Accepted There is a hidden "Mallora" board that automatically gives a rider abilities that are better than the normal maximum stats. The Mallora Board is banned from use. There are also other codes for maximum rider and board abilities, etc. These are banned, too. Fortunately, none of the above-mentioned codes can be permanently saved to the memory card, so basically all codes are unauthorized, and the player must accomplish his score with a normal SSX memory card save. Interestingly, the best players already know that it's not too difficult to open all the courses and max-out the stats for one or more riders without cheat codes. vii. Twin Galaxies reserves the right to make "Referee Calls" during the contest which are based on a fair and impartial evaluation of a player's tactics, determining if the player is abiding by the spirit of the intended gameplay. Judgement calls concerning the aformentioned "Finish Line/Acceleration Trick" are an example of the Referee's privilege. 5. Contest Dates The contest dates are June 16th, 2001 through and including August 31st, 2001. Players can join in the contest on any day during that time period. The final day that a videotaped submission can be postmarked is Friday, August 31st, 2001. All tapes must reach Twin Galaxies referee Tom Herrera by Monday, September 10th, 2001. The final winners will be announced on Monday, September 17th, 2001. However, Twin Galaxies will reserve the right to delay the final judging until all scores are completely and properly verified. 6. Contest Rankings From the first day, Twin Galaxies will be creating contest rankings based on high-score claims submitted to our contest Referee, Tom Herrera. However, these rankings are only temporary, as each player is required to send in videotaped proof of their highest-score runs to Referee Tom Herrera. Also, during this time, Tom Herrera will be updating an additional page that lists all scores, both verified and unverified, that will function mainly as a source of inspiration. 7. Acceptable Submission Formats If your PS2 employ "memory pack/card database record tables," do NOT submit a VHS recording of your VMU record table uploads as your method of verification. they are insufficient as the score(s) may have been achieved using game enhancement devices (i.e. GameShark), illegal tactics or glitches. Thus, with one exception listed below, only VHS videotaped submissions are acceptable. The following submission formats have been deemed acceptable by Twin Galaxies for the purpose of this conest and this contest alone: You can submit your VHS videotapes in either NTSC standard, PAL, PAL-M, or MSECAM format, in either 50 hertz or 60 hertz. VHS submissions can be accomplished either by connecting your Playstation 2 directly into your VHS video recorder and simultaneously recording your gameplay as it progresses, or by using a stationary videocamera that fully captures your screen and allows Referee Tom Herrera to view the entire playfield/screen. You can also submit your scores via connecting your Playstation 2 to your PC via a TV card and recording in MS Media Player format, PROVIDING you advise Referee Tom Herrera in advance of your intentions to do so AND provide him with the "CODEC" you intend to use...it must be one that is widely and freely available, else the Referee may be unable to verify your submission. Please be aware that the resultant generated file(s) will be HUGE...possibly 1.6 gigabytes per 28 minutes of gameplay, perhaps more. The following submission formats are NOT acceptable...BetaMax and SECAM. Note that although "SECAM" format is unacceptable, "MSECAM" format is acceptable. Before the end of the contest, contestants will be required to submit to Twin Galaxiestheir highest-scoring run(s) in one of the aformentioned acceptable formats. Your submission must show your gaming session from beginning to end; including loading, introduction and final score display screens. Start taping/recording from the game load-up screen, then the high-score-and-progress record load-up from your VMU, then scroll thru the records, then lastly the options, before starting to record your gameplay. In the event that your gameplay is about to run out of tape, I will allow you to pause the game right there before the tape runs out, continue to record while paused for a few more seconds, then stop recording, swap tapes, continue recording while gameplay is still paused, then restart gameplay in progress. Clearly label the tape with your name, your Twin Galaxies Username, the game, the date, and your best score(s). if you have several record-breaking scores on one tape, please include a note that tells us where on each tape to find each of the scores. Approximate starting time in terms of minutes & seconds will be appreciated. Each videotape will be viewed in its entirety Each videotape will be viewed in its entirety by Tom Herrera, Twin Galaxies Referee. The final day that a videotaped/recorded submission can be postmarked is Friday, August 31st, 2001. All tapes must reach Referee Tom Herrera by Monday, September 10th, 2001. This means that players are responsible to send their tapes by a means of shipping that guarantees that the tapes will arrive at the postal address of Twin Galaxies Referee Tom Herrera by August 31st, 2001. All videotapes become the property of Twin Galaxies for archive purposes. Twin Galaxies reserves the right to publish the videos on its website for the public to see. All videotaped/recorded entries must be accompanied by a Twin Galaxies Player Submission and Agreement Form. Print out and fill out an official Twin Galaxies Player Submission and Agreement Form and include it with your videotape/recording submission. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to properly view and print the form. You can download it free from Adobe HERE. Or, send an E-MAIL to Referee Tom Herrera and he can E-MAIL the necessary forms. Digital photos showing the scores are easily altered and cannot be accepted as definitive proof. Print and fill out an official Twin Galaxies Score Submission Form and include it with your videotape. You will need Adobe® Acrobat® Reader to properly view and print the form. You can download it free from Adobe here. Send BOTH the videotape(s)/recording(s) and submission form(s) to: Attn: SSX World Championship Tom Herrera, Twin Galaxies Referee P.O. Box 9779 Las Vegas, NV 89191-0779 USA Email: Tom_Herrera@hotmail.com 8. No Cheats, GameSharks, game enhancement devices, or programming bugs allowed Once again, to ascertain the veracity of each submission, the winning entries will be analyzed frame-by-frame before the champions are announced. Also, if new glitches or cheats are uncovered, they will be reviewed on a one-at-a-time basis to determine whether they violate the spirit of the gameplay. 9. Proving Your Score If a submission displays evidence that a Cheat, GameShark, programming bug or other illegal device was employed, the player will be disqualified from this contest. Twin Galaxies reserves the right to have a player replay their game in front of an official Twin Galaxies representative before being approved for a prize if, at our sole discretion, such leniency is granted. 10. In Case of Ties In the remote instance of a tie, a play-off will be required between the tied players 11. Technical Information If you are videotaping your game on the PS2, you will either need to hook up a VHS video recorder to your video-out port on your video card, or, you will need to videotape the screen with a video camera. The other acceptable submission involves hooking up your PS2 to your PC via a TV card, and recording your gameplay in MS Media Player format...but before that, please inform Referee Tom Herrera of your intent to do so AND the "CODEC" you plan to utilize...it must be one that is widely and freely available. This is a relatively new format to Twin Galaxies, and is not without logistical consideration, but we at Twin Galaxies are pro-active with the growing advances in technology, and wish to embrace this new means of electronic submission for the purposes of this contest. The last means of submission is setting up a stationary video camcorder and capturing your gameplay screen in it's entirety. Players are encouraged to make every attempt to position the stationary camera in such a way that the gameplay, screen, and most importantly the score portion, are unobstructed as much as physically possible. If you have specific questions regarding the logistics of your planned cam-cording submission, please contact Referee Tom Herrera in advance. If you have any other questions regarding these rules or anything else in regards to this contest, e-mail Tom Herrera at Tom_Herrera@hotmail.com |
