WELCOME TO THE BIG SSX4 SNOWBOARD DESIGN CONTEST !!!

phase 1 - to all artists: create and post a snowboard's design
phase 2 - big poll here at the gravitude bar
phase 3 - submit winning design to EA and ask for being in the game. wait until ssx4 comes out and look out for the board

all you have to do is to make a nice texture for a snowboard and post it here.
just like you do avatars and signatures. thats all.
i think a resolution of approx. 800x200 pixels should be fine.
remember that the edges of your design will be cropped like in the example below.
dont' get too small with details since the in-game texture will be heavily compressed.
please include "merqurycity.com" and/or "the gravitude bar" in your design.

FBX managed it before, so i hope this will work !!! </dan>

Also this idea rules the boards the chracters had in SSX3 were shit. I'm in.

Also how are we to know what charcters this board is for, No point doing it in pink if Kaori isn't in it, and can usernames be on the design. If I'm doing work I wanna be reckognised for it.

woot? how many germans do you know? :)

i have no idea for new pics, i didn't even want to participate at this contest here, but if no one joins it, i'll probably make a board-design...
btw: there is an updated version of the "ssx4fr"-thing here:

ea is not asking for things like this. we can't be sure that a submitted design will make it into the game. we have to trust the sportmanship of the ea-people, since this is the biggest ssx-fansite ever. so if we provide a design, we can't say: this one is for kaori (i'm in love, too); we have to be satisfied when we make it into the game at all.

the rules: there are none. of course there can be usernames. do what ever you like. you don't even HAVE to include "merqurycity.com" or "gravitude.bar", it was just a suggestion, but remember that the winning design should represent the whole community here at merqurycity.com (another suggestion)... :)

the bottom line: where is your design? </dan>

O.K Thats awesome thanks for the clear up. I'll enter ten, It's just FBX had FBX on his bard so I was wondering and I think that having MerquryCity.com or The Gravitude Bar on it is great idea. Thanks Dan.

Didn't FBX provide more than just a design, but also a 3D render with all sorts of physics applied? *Waits for Gondee to answer*

He built the 3D board to model the texture file on, but he just sent the texture file to EA, IIRC. :)

How do we know that it will be put into the game even if we make it extra unique and perfect for the game? Do you have connections?

and I don't get it. So you make the design and then you drag it over the snowboard and trim the edges. I don't get it maybe you can make a little tutorial so it can be possible for more people to enter this contest. :yes Because if I learn how to do it I can definitely win. I have the best design on my mind right now.

I can probably create a photoshop document really easily that would do just let you paint the design on a flat layer, then you can overlay the board out line on top of it. You guys could download it and use it - you'd have to have photoshop though. :)

well its hard to describe, but this is a working setup in photoshop:

copy the board (the white snowboard without any graphics) to your computer. if you open the "board" in photoshop, there will be only a background-layer in the layer-palette. double-click it to make it a regular layer. set the blending mode to "multiply". create a new layer and drag it under the "board-layer". this layer is for your graphics.

Image

there must be similar techniques in other apps, but i can only describe it here for photoshop. :wtf

ps: were going to send the texture only, ea will (hopefully) map it onto one of their boards, so you dont need to do all this here :)

Anyways I don't even have photoshop yet. But alp is coming over today and he will give me a copy of his. Then I can start doing something. And Gondee I would be grateful if you can make that file thing you wearier talking about. And DK I kinda didn't get shit from what you said. Maybe once I get photoshop today I will be able to understand what your talking about. OMFG I can't wait I will make the hottest designs. LOL.

And what version of photoshop do you use?

Okay, here's the Photoshop Document for the contest:

http://www.merqurycity.com/gondee/boardcontest.psd

Format is Photoshop 6 so most of you should be able to use it no problem.

There are 4 layers, but you can modify that as you need to. When you open it up, you'll see the "Texture Layer" is highlighted. You can put your design here (or add other layers around it to work on - just be sure to keep the "Board Layer" on top - that's the overlay of the board design.

Image

Go ahead and put your design on the texture layer - in this case I've just filled it in with a generic fill texture as an example.

Image

After you've done your design, just turn on the "Board Overlay" layer and your design will be finished! :)

Image

Simple as cake! :cheers
