Not to crush dreams, but the announcement of an FF7 Remake isn't exactly "surprising" since ya know, we've all been anticipating it for the past 2 or so years now, and it's gotta be something even BIGGER than just a remake of a game, seriously...u gotta think 20 years of making FF games...it's gotta be somethin thats a shock to everyone...like a Collectors Edition thing or somethin, that compiles every single FF game onto the PS3 or w/e...THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF FF7 REMAKE will just have people go "YAY!! I KNEW THEY WERE GONNA DO IT" but that's not the expression of surprise, now is it? :P Ya gotta dig DEEEEEPER guys! XD

GN, you obviously have no idea of the power of FF7 fanboys. Even if SE promised they would make a remake and give the announcement date and everything two years prior, fanboys would still be going absolutely insane over it. They're at a level of devotion and desperation that nothing will make a difference now. :heh

But yea, this is weird. 20 since FF1 or 10 years since FF7, it's events are huge. Oh well, I'm sure we won't be dissapointed.

Square Enix Licenses Unreal Engine 3
Something's up within Final Fantasy's walls.
By Patrick Klepek, 01/25/2007
We realize most studios have forgone the previous notion of developing their own proprietary engines in favor of middleware, eliminating much of the unnecessary pre-production work on already costly next-generation games, but did anyone expect Square Enix would be someone to join this fold? This morning, they announced they've licensed Unreal Engine 3 from Epic Games -- and we're confused.

Square Enix has always been the kind of company who develops their own, internal engines for their games, but suddenly they've turned to an American middleware developer, completely out of nowhere and out of character for the company. Are we being given a glimpse into a chink on Square Enix's Final Fantasy-blazed armor, or are simply looking into this announcement a wee bit too much?

The company hasn't revealed why they've picked up Unreal Engine 3 just yet, but we should know more in the ongoing months, as Square Enix starts to unravel its next-generation plans more publically. Here's a prediction: Final Fantasy XIII development has seen trouble due to White Engine proving problematic and Unreal Engine 3's here to save it.

Or we could just be making **** up.
