i'm bored so i'm creating this topic to see what my fellow merpers think of the pros and cons of where they live

i'll start,
Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada
Image
PROS: nice dry powder in the winter for snowboarding/skiing, mainly sunny summers, 80,000+ population(it’s decent considering other cites in Canada), 2 ski resorts in the area( one’s a 20 minute drive and the other only takes 45 mins plus it’s open year round)
Image
(this is the resort that's open year round for skiing moutain biking etc. :D )
CONS: gets to -40 degrees celcius in the winter and +40 celcius in the summer, very arid and dry in the summer, shitty drivers :glare

have fun :)

Well I live in Tulsa Oklahoma (actually jenks but it's pretty much Tulsa) a few pros are the super nice people, there's some really pretty areas and there's great spots to skate :)
And the cons, well there isn't very much to do here in Tulsa :/

Cons:
-Expensive!!!
-Not nearly as many events as in LA.
-Tourists. Freakin'
-Military aircraft is loud
-Crappy public transit makes it hard to get to the beach without a car. It's not really hard, it just takes a lot of time.
-Potholes
-Rude drivers. Freakin'
-The good stuff is never in walk-able distance. You need a freaking car for everything.

Okay, now the pros.

Pros:
All of this. San Diego is like the best of LA and San Francisco combined. So underrated, plus we are close to the border so we have great Mexican food, and perfect weather. It was 98F last week.

Real photos not that crap from Google Images.

Pros:
There's always something to do. Lots of shows, clubs and bars for those who like the nightlife.
Plenty of choices for eating places!
Strong Tekken scene =P
Texans Football
Lots of shopping places

Cons:
TRAFFIC/road ragers everywhere
everything is so far away, Houston is huge
The weather here is horrible, so humid... so bad for my allergies too.

Woah, TrickyEmu!!!! You live in a dream fantasy, you live in heaven! Look at that picture!!! Goddamnit I wish I live there. If I lived in San Diego I would be constantly outside... all the time.. basking in that beautiful beautiful world.

London

pros: The atmosphere. That is about the only thing I can think of about this shitty place after seeing San Diego! Lol nah, there is a great atmosphere in London. Music events, art galleries, museums, skate parks. Glamorous shopping in Regent street, gothic Camden, smutty district Soho! Upmarket Mayfair and Knightsbridge. Theatre and cinema of Leicester Square. Awesome night life, heavy nightclubs with beautiful girls. The Piccadilly Trocadero. Oh and Lakeside shopping centre has the only Taco Bell in the UK. :D

cons: Very expensive, tourists, smog, traffic, bad attitude drivers, weather, crime, bubonic plague. :lol

(all pictures by me)

Image

Pros:
-It's damn well near impossible to have a dull weekend
-On related note, unparalleled music scene
-Because LA is so spread out, each district has a very distinct feel; it's essentially like having 10+ different cities in close proximity to one another
-Great food
-Great art
-Laid-back pace of life
-Lots of new and different people and cultures to experience
-Proximity to lots of outdoor activities (I've snowboarded in the morning and made it back in time to catch the sunset at the beach)
-Easy to book cheap flights out because LAX is a major hub
-Killer sunsets (proof: https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/528721_10101130485230365_1997972533_n.jpg)

Cons:
-Traffic
-Parking
-No seasons
-Can hit 110+ in the summer
-Traffic
-Public transportation isn't very usable
-Expensive as all hell to live here
-People don't tend to stay in LA for very long
-Traffic
-It's difficult to show a visiting friends "the sights" because we don't have many landmarks and all the districts are really spread out; you get the most out of LA if you live here (FYI guys, Hollywood is pretty ghetto)
-Traffic
-Traffic
-Traffic

Despite the traffic, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the world.

Thatcham Berkshire.

Pros:
It's near the M4 and Heathrow Airport so I can leave.

Cons:
It's not Devon so therefore it's shit.

This is a super nice idea for a thread. :) I'll give it a go. I give you...

Lund!

Image

Pros:
- University town so lots of young people and high median income.
- Very safe, you can walk anywhere at any time of day.
- Beautiful old city centre.
- Excellent public transport, you don't need a car.
- Very good train connections to Malmö (bigger city) ~10 minutes and Copenhagen (capital of Denmark) ~40 minutes.

Cons:
- Located in the middle of vast fields, so nowhere to walk in nature.
- Nothing to do nightlife-wise unless you're a student at Lund University.
- Really really really super ridiculously hard to get apartments due to students.
- Quite boring, nothing weird ever happens.
- Somewhat snobbish.

I just moved back two weeks ago after studying in a different part of Sweden, and my conclusion is that I will love to raise my future kids here at some point, but right now I just want to get out of here again and live somewhere more exciting.

Portland:
Pros: Very liberal, smart people in general.
Awesome town.
Mountains/Beach not too far in either direction.
Weather is temperate the whole year.

Cons:
Rains too much, but that's part of the whole temperate thing.
Too many homeless people up here.
Too many people think Portland is the place to be for jobs and move here.
Lots of hipsters.

Grand Rapids is just a middle of the road city for the most part.

Pros:
  • Home of the world's largest art competition, ArtPrize.
  • In between Chicago and Detroit when you need to escape.
  • Cost of living is low.
  • Commuting to work is easy.
  • Good school systems. :zzz
  • 10 cent bottle deposits.
  • My family lives relatively close. Guess that's personal. lol

Cons:
  • It's cold in the winter. Most of the winter is cloudy days. <--And this is why I want to move.
  • An average of about 2 meters of snow per year. <--Good if you like snow sports. [marty]
  • Airfare is more expensive from Grand Rapids. Flying out of Detroit Metro will save substantial money if you're willing to drive 2 hours to get there.
  • Would like to see more restaurant diversity.
  • No commuter train.
  • Too conservative.

Pros: College Football, nice people, conservative, "small town" atmosphere, you can see really freakin' far cause it's so damn flat.
Cons: Not too much to do, really hot summers, really cold winters, and an excessive amount of wind.

On a side note, this is where I lived up until 3 weeks ago.

Pretty pimpin'. Although as prefect as it is in the summer, as seen in the video, that bitch is WINDY in winter.

Pros: It's lively, lots of fun, very safe environmentally. Depends where you live how the crime is, but overall not awful. We run huge events all year round, we get all kinds of international performers, speakers, celebrities in general. Toronto is essentially the center of big events in Canada, so there's always something to see and do.

Cons: Cold in the winter, congested, people are rather reserved on average, not extremely hospitable unless they have a reason to speak to you (shopkeepers, etc. :shrug ).

The area I live in is quiet, suburban and very safe. In the summer it's green, beautiful and I love to bike around it every single day. I miss the summer already!
