Windows Media Format

Merqurycity.com uses Windows Media Format primarily to encode videos.

Why do we do this? Simple - Windows Media format provides the best compression when hosting long movies. Many of the Master Runs on Merqurycity.com can go for more than 3 minutes
. To do this in any other format would mean file sizes of at least 50 megabytes and would make many of our files too large to be downloaded by people using modems at 56K speed. Using Windows Media format allows us to make the files as small as 10-15 megabytes, and also allows for the widest possible audience to view them.

In order to view these movies, you must have Windows Media Player for either the PC or the Macintosh. It may be possible to watch videos using another player other than this one, but Merqurycity.com does not make any recommendations on a particular one.

If you download a particular Master Run and are having problems watching it, try downloading Windows Media Codec 9 from the Windows Media Site. As much as possible, Merqurycity.com will attempt to encode videos using the older Windows Media Codec 7 that is present in nearly all Windows Media Players. However, occasionally we host videos encoded by others who use the newest codec. In these instances it may be necessary to download the newest Windows Media Codec. Often times, Windows Media will auto-download the codec, saving you some time.

If you are planning on submitting a Master Run to Merqurycity.com for us to host, please remember we prefer that all videos be encoded in Windows Media Format and no larger than 25 megabytes. Divx and other codecs are acceptable, but not preferred since users may have to download a separate codec from a separate site to watch the movies. This tends to confuse those new to the world of online game movies.

Enjoy the Master Runs!
