Two things, then another question.
First,
to correct what Gondee said, the demo should be in the next OPM, not
PSM. Just wanted to clarify that incase someone was too lazy to look
at the other topics, bought PSM, and get irked.
Second, in
response to ssx4ever, I don't think having access to this site will
make the game less enjoyable. I came here right after I started
playing Tricky and I still had a blast. Plus, with all the
unlockables and the hours upon hours to do stuff (unlock and
different paths and stuff), it might be nice to come here so you
don't have to play 8 hours a day. ;)
Last, the question.
Well, set of questions. It's kind of going off the "restart level"
idea I asked before. Is something like this available when you're in
Conquer the Mountain mode (and not in an event)? Like, is there
check points you can restart to? It'd suck to miss a path you were
trying to get to and either restart at the top of a peak or even
have to find a way back up. Also, when you use the gondolas, ski
lifts, or whatever, do they go to certain points other than events
and top of the peaks? Like halfway between Crow's Nest and Snow Jam?
Or do they go right near the events? Also, I think it was said you
can just warp to an event through the menu (completed events only?).
When you do this, do you automatically start the event or do you
warp near it (say, the forked path before it) so you can conquer the
mountain near the point? This would make unlocking things much
easier, imho.

Two more thing. Sorry about the double post but
I just noticed somethings on ssx3.com. For the online stuff, will it
use both voice and keyboard (well, probably no typing during an
event)? That is, if any of you asked. For people who play online PS2
games that support both (are there any?), does that mean there are
seperate rooms? I ask because I noticed that the website mentions
not harassing language in normal or l33t sp34k and I can't imagine
1337 working well speaking (aside from a few words).
Hmm... I
hope it supports voice stuff since that would be one of my main
reasons try playing SSX3 online (since I need to buy an NA and
router to do so).
Also, did EA get sponsors for this game? I
was checking out the Crow's Nest video and tried to catch the
advertisements since they were funny on Tricky. I noticed that as
Mac passed the bridge that there was an upside down 7-up sign (why
upside down, I wonder). Are there more of these endorsements in the
game?

Is something like this restart option
available when you're in Conquer the Mountain mode (and not in an
event)? Like, is there check points you can restart to?
There aren't checkpoints or anything, but once you enter
an event, you are stuck in that event unless you quit. If you
restart, you will restart that particular event. As far as
"warping", I can't fully remember if it's possible in Conquer the
Mountain - check earlier in this thread.
Also, when you
use the gondolas, ski lifts, or whatever, do they go to certain
points other than events and top of the peaks? Like halfway between
Crow's Nest and Snow Jam?
It's possible, but I'm not sure
as I didn't experience that part of the game very much. Ask Krispy
[refrain, refrain], lol. I'm not sure about your other "warping
questions." Others can answer them, I'm sure.
For the
online stuff, will it use both voice and keyboard (well, probably no
typing during an event)?
Probably just voice. I haven't
heard too much about the keyboard option in SSX 3. I would be
surprised if it was in there.
Also, did EA get sponsors
for this game? I was checking out the Crow's Nest video and tried to
catch the advertisements since they were funny on
Tricky.
Yep, EA got official sponsors for this one. One
is DNL Flip, a new drink coming out from 7-up. They also have
billboards for a real SUV in the game (ask Krispy which one, I can't
remember.) I don't really remember why, and even though I think it's
kinda dumb, I understand the reasoning. Hopefully it's not so
prolific that it ruins some of the enjoyment of the game. ("SSX 3 -

I'll do the quick answers:
1] Did you
find any glitches on your way down the tracks?
Tons of
reset bounderies and polygon holes, but that's because we got an
incomplete version that had not been QA-tested yet. I saw Steve did
mention the QA team was whining about there being way too much to
test, and I remember thinking at the time that it would be a real
nightmare to test this game to perfection. I don't envy those chaps
right now ;-)
2] Is there a point limit on SSX3 (some
games have 999.999 as the limit or something like that, what about
SSX3?) Hopefully it will be like in Tricky, no limit!!
We
don't know the answer to that question.
3] I may have
missed this one on my way to the end of this topic, but i just ask
again, is it possible to play 1v1 on all types of styles/modes and
stages/tracks, or?
Can't answer that with comeplete
certainty. As far as I know, yes.
4] How is the internet
thing going to work? Will the game lag when you play online? What if
both have dial-up connections and plays online? Will it lag
then?
We wouldn't know this kind of detail. We were only
told about the online feature, we never got to actually try
it.
5] Since you guys played with cheats, what was the
highest score you guys and girls got on each type of mode and
track?
Remember your first scores on Garibaldi the first
day you got the game? That's how forgettable our scores were. It
takes a lot of practice and time before those become worth
mentioning.
6] Is it possible to choose more than 1-2
musics to have bangin in the background on each track when you ride
down?
I asked about this and I recall they intend for all
music tracks to be selectable.
By the way, is Garibaldi in
this one? ;]
SSX3 is all new tracks.

Hmmmm, people almost always look over my
questions... I wonder why? Maybe cause my single questions aren't
spaced out as much...
I'm gonna re-ask my question in case
you guys forgot about it. Plus I'll make it spaced out more so it'll
be easier to see.
Do the BIG challenges count as the other
modes? Meaning like if we do one simple race at wherever or a
slopestyle event, will that be considered one of the BIG
challenges?
When we decide to play as another character, do
we have to do all of the races/modes and BIG challenges all over
again? I think we would have to do the races/modes all over again,
but I wanna make sure if we have to do all the BIG challenges over
again...
Can we customize Mac so he has a buzz cut (or
whatever he had in SSX/T)? He looks wierd now with longer hair but I
think I can get used to his new hairstyle but I'm wondering if he
has his old one(s)...
I think this will be it for questions
from me. Unless I think of some more... Also what happened to

First, to correct what Gondee said, the demo
should be in the next OPM, not PSM.
Yes, thank you for
correcting that. The SSX 3 Demo will be in OPM (Official
Playstation Magazine), not PSM.
Okay, I got one. Where
did EA get the idea that people don't use that "look behind"
button?
I think they thought it just wasn't used enough.
In looking at their control scheme, using an entire button for just
that was an easy decision because they had so many new things in the
trick arsenal to include. Plus, it wasn't in Tricky, so I don't
think they heard too many people complain about it being gone.
Do the BIG challenges count as the other modes? Meaning
like if we do one simple race at wherever or a slopestyle event,
will that be considered one of the BIG challenges?
Not
sure what you mean here. BIG challenges are (I'm pretty sure) only
in Conquer the Mountain. They usually are very different from the
regular modes - like trying to beat a character's showoff total down
the mountain, or keeping your total airtime under 10 seconds. That
sort of thing - they're much more specific than an entire "mode".
When we decide to play as another character, do we have
to do all of the races/modes and BIG challenges all over
again?
No. (I'm not even sure you have to beat the entire
Conquer the Mountain each time you pick a new character, though it
would make sense that you would. Anyone here for sure on this?)
Can we customize Mac so he has a buzz cut (or whatever he
had in SSX/T)?
I like him with longer hair! :D But yes, I
believe his old short hair is one of the selections (you might ask
Krispy though, he'd know.)

One quick question! It's not for me really but
for others who will race online, like FBX.
After the race
online will there be an option in which others can watch a replay of
the race?
And if so, will they be able to watch the replay
from both racers' views? (ie. in Tricky, when you watch a replay,
you can toggle between which characters you're watching. So you can
watch yourself, then see how Elise is doing, then mov eon to
Marisol, etc.) Will that take place online? (ie. You can watch
yourself then check to see how your opponent was
doing...)
I'm just asking this cause it will really suck if
someone were to simply watch a replay someone else's line and copy
it. It would really spoil the fun to those racing kings, like
FBX... --- Don't be reading this! Go back to the

i dont think you can look at someone else's
replay. i may be wrong though. unless that person checks the replay
and watches it they wont be able to get it, like in tricky, in
split-screen player one couldnt access player 2's replay and vice
versa. So as long as FBX isnt constantly looking at his replays, his
lines should be safe. --- Kwa Ki Sur Pi Ni Ku |

Krispys dead.
Well kind of. My computer
server is down, and I started school. Basically, I'm in message
board purgitory right now.
I would love to answer all of your
question at this moment, but I'm at a family-friends house, one of
the only other people whose hotmail account I could check from. So
many computer related problems from family and friends, it's like
I'm being kept away from you guys. I'm just going to answer some of
the questions Gondee directed to me.
I think Atomica gave
comments on close races, but it was a lot more dry and pointed than
Rahzel, so his voice doesn't haunt you. I'm not sure if he makes fun
of you, but the characters do that. He's basically there to give
news while freeriding, mostly about the lives of other characters.
Mac's voice? I'm not a Mac person, but I guess he's the
same, more mellow, like everyone. And yes, you can equip him with a
buzz cut. If Moby has pig tails, and Griff has a Mowhawk, Mac can
have his old hair.
I think Gondolas just take you to
different parts of the backcountry, so you can get different BIG
challanges. You go down the mountain, and always end up at the
course select. But there are special situations, like theres only
one place to warp to to get Metro City.
Finally, yes the
overhyped ads for DNL and one the world's ugliest car, the Honda
Element, are annoying. They are discussed in the intro movie for
crying out loud! I remembered it was the Element because we are a
Honda loving family and were discusted by this cube on wheels. It
makes sense though, if you watch Element commercials they are
directed towards surfers/snowboarders because of the trunk space.
And, then again, I guess it's more realistic for a snowboarding tour
to have sponsors. They put the car in the level R&B, you can't
miss it.
For now, see ya! I'll get back to you whenever I
can. I'll always find a way back. On that note, where's Dolphingirl?

Can someone plz explain how the "one huge
mountain" thing is gonna work. are there loading screens between
different tracks, or do u just kinda jump from one track to
another?
You can warp to the top of the peak and board to
the different tracks, in fact, I think that's the preferred method.
You don't jump from one track to the other, you board there. If you
warped it would be just like SSX Tricky.
Can players
"fall" off their boards, because i saw a movie in which allegra fell
off her snowboard.
Yes, you can. You don't all the time,
but you do on nasty crashes. That's partly what the crash recovery
button (was it X or Circle? I can't remember) is for. You were
supposed to mash on that to recover your wipeout. Unfortunately, in
the build we had, it yielded no benefit to crash recover instead of
push select (way easier) so we just pushed select all the time
because the boost loss was negligible. We talked to the producers
and said if they wanted to make the crash recovery system worth it,
they'd have to weaken the manual reset to make it worth it to both
with crash recovery at all.
What are some very interesting
bolt-ons for characters?
Fish fish fish, lol. Read some
of the previous thread and you'll see. Different characters have
weapons like Zoe has a pipe, Mac has a boombox he carries, Kaori has
a celphone, Allegra has a guitar. Each character has both regular
snowboarding outfits (like hoodies in 10 different colors) or crazy
outfits (Zoe has an outfit that looks like the lower half of samurai
battle armor, Psymon has a coat with fish hanging off of it).
There's lots of crazy crap.
How have loading screens been
"blended" into the actual game?
When you reset and ride
the gondola, the characters do stuff inside the gondola. The best
ones are Psymon and Griff from what I saw.
In cutscenes
between loading, can u tell that the game is loading (by a loading
page) or does it just occur during the movies?
No,
there's a loading screen. The cutscene doesn't take up the whole
loading time and isn't very exciting, but the load times weren't
bad. Fairly average for a PS2 game.
Do player models
differ and enhance during the intro movie/cutscenes?
Nope, pretty sure they stay the same during the
cutscenes. If you mean the actual CGI movies, then yes, they are
"enhanced" but that's because they are actually
rendered.
What was the longest course (in area coverage)
that is in the game (excluding the "huge mountain"
track)?
Well, there are a few long ones at the top of the
mountain, racing ones that I remember. But as for the single longest
one, dunno. No one took a stopwatch to see.
Can you hold
rail Uber Tricks?
You know, excellent questions and I
don't remember. Anyone remember if you can hold Uber tricks? My
default answer is I don't think so...
I've seen movies in
which the player tumbles down the mountain after doing a flip, the
keeps on flipping on the ground. Does this happen often? If so, how
can you escape from it without manually reseting?
This
usually happens when you are in the middle of flipping or doing an
uber and you crash. Yes, you can escape by resetting - that's why
the Crash Recovery feature was essentially
useless.

Stupid lack of an edit-post feature... let me
clarify a few mistakes I made above:
You can warp to the
top of the peak and board to the different tracks,
This
is only after you have beat every level. Normally you start at the
bottom and board your way to the different levels, advancing only
after you've beat them. When you beat all the tracks, you start at
the bottom of the next peak and work your way up. You always board
via backcountry (not warp) to the next level when you have beat the
previous one.
Can you hold rail Uber Tricks?
You
know, excellent questions and I don't remember. Anyone remember if
you can hold Uber tricks? My default answer is I don't think
so...
Let me clarify this: you can hold REGULAR uber
tricks -I can't remember if you can hold RAIL uber tricks. Anyone

vix: Even though we already played the game,
I'm personally more excited than ever! I can't wait for SSX
3!!! As FirebrandX said, we only scraped the
surface!
MagikMonkey: I believe that the "not so secret"
feature you unlock once you beat the game is actually the ability to
race down the whole mountain in one single monstrous run! Larry
LaPierre mentioned it would take one player about 30 minutes to do
so!!! I can't wait for us to have challenges against FirebrandX
to see who can find the shortest path on such course! (If you can
call that a course.) Imagine that!
vix: The most
surprising thing for me was to realize the shear amount of data the
E.A. Team actually put in this game! I'm talking on a very wide
scale here, from the amount of Tracks, to the overall design
quality, the many unlockables, bolt-ons, customizable possibilities,
etc, etc... I mean, this game is huuuuuuge!!!
No specific
yucky thing that I can remember...
As far as the wows, ask
Gondee, I was pretty much going "Wow!" every 5 minutes, and this all
day long!
Nothing was darn awful... Except maybe for Vigo's
voice! (Just kidding!)
What stuck out for me personally was a
certain satisfaction to see the return of a somewhat "real SSX
feeling". Unlike Tricky, where pretty much everything needed some
more fine tuning, here it all felt very smooth... Jumps allow you to
catch Big Air pretty easily (No, I do not mean that the game is
easy!) and courses seem to have been carefully designed for the kind
of event they are meant to support (Race vs. Slopestyle, etc,
etc...) Also, no frustrating object or obstacles placed in
annoying spots on the various Tracks. The game seems to have been
designed for maximum enjoyment! Basically, it was just a REAL
pleasure to play SSX 3, or at least through what we saw of
it!

which is better: the reset or crash
recovery?
In the build we had, reset was much better.
Crash recovery wasn't really recovery as much as it was "1/2 off
your regular crash."
how much is a plane ticket to go to
the next mtn?
You don't buy tickets to the next mountain.
You have to earn them by beating all the tracks in the previous
peak.
Do you have any idea how much it would take to know
the routs on the whole mtn?
What do you mean? How long?
Quite a long time - the game is friggin humongous.
Can you
turn 90 degrees while doing rail uber tricks (like normal
grinds)?
Nope. You just stay the way you are.
How many rail ubers are there?
Good
question...I don't really remember. I'd say 5-10, give or take a
few.
Does the game have an interesting AI or not
(i.e.other characters do uber tricks or grind on
rails)?
They do in spots, but the AI isn't like playing
other players. That may change, though.
Was this a paid
trip or did you guys have to pay for the flight to
vancouver?
The entire thing was sponsored by EA (THANK
YOU, EA!).
Were there any environmental sound effects
that just "WOW"ed you guys?
Quite a few for me
personally. The sound effects on avalanches and in the forest are
damn cool.
Are the wildlife interactive or not (i.e. u
snowboard next to a bird and it flies away)?
They are
interactive. They respond to you boarding near them, yes.
Can you encounter birds in the air? What I mean is hit
them.
Not sure. I would be surprised if you could. I
think they are included just for atmosphere, but I could be wrong.

Okay a couple of questions:
Amazon.com
really worried me and i still havent been able to work this out from
this giant post but... split screen 2 player is still in ssx3 right?
Amazon's product description says for one player and ign says 4
players (maybe an earlier prediction for online play). I have the
online adaptor but with all this fancy streaming technology i worry
that theyve left out split screen 2 player! How will i mercilessly
whip my housemates!?
Also, am i right in thinking that the
different courses do not flow directly into each other when you
freeride from the top of a peak to the bottom but are linked by
shorter (backcountry?) routes which serve no purpose other than to
link the main runs? The end of one run isnt always the start of
another i hope!
Thanks in advance,
Mikey |

Is there still a use for the l3 button like when
it would cancel a prewind in ssx trickyn (not a lot of ppl know
this)?
Can u flip easier than in ssx tricky (because i saw
som1 flip 3 times on a very, VERY small jump)?
What happens
if u completely fill up ur punching "meter"?
Are unlockable
characters treated like normal characters or like custom made
characters (less voice acting, profiles, mix master mike in
tricky)?
Do unlockable characters have to be unlocked by
cheats or are they a certain part of the rosters?
Are
unlockable characters able to have a variety of bolt-ons just like
normal characters? --- My name is ssx3outofbounds in

split screen 2 player is still in ssx3 right?
Yup. We all played in a pseudo-competition at the end of
the day in 2 player splitscreen. Seemed easier to see the course to
me, but it could have been the fact that we were playing on the big
screen, heheh. ;-)
Also, am i right in thinking that the
different courses do not flow directly into each other when you
freeride from the top of a peak to the bottom but are linked by

That's correct, at least
initially. You can board to different "entrances" to the tracks, and
then you are in that particular track - like R&B Slopestyle,
etc.
Is there still a use for the l3 button like when it
would cancel a prewind in ssx tricky?
Good question. Not
sure, but I would think so. Anyone remember the use of this
particular button?
Can u flip easier than in ssx tricky
(because i saw som1 flip 3 times on a very, VERY small
jump)?
You may have seen a fully powered up character
that flips easily. I don't think it's any faster than in previous
games at Master Level. Also, there's the "trick correction" feature
that's in the game now. That may have let the last flip land faster
than previous games would have.
What happens if u
completely fill up ur punching "meter"?
Not sure what you
mean. There's isn't a punching meter, though your hand does glow if
you power-up your punches. If you hit them when your hand is
glowing, then they wipe-out. As opposed to just tapping the R1/L1
buttons - then they just spin out and don't fall down.
Are
unlockable characters treated like normal characters or like custom
made characters (less voice acting, profiles, mix master mike in
tricky)?
I don't know. They weren't playable in the build
we had, and I don't think the creators had made up their minds at
that point as to how far they were going to go with
each.
Do unlockable characters have to be unlocked by
cheats or are they a certain part of the rosters?
I think
there are a few that will be unlocked by challenges, and a few that
are unlocked by other means (collection, etc.) My guess would be
that there will be cheat codes to unlock them, but you don't HAVE to
use a cheat code to unlock them.
Are unlockable characters
able to have a variety of bolt-ons just like normal characters?
Dunno. Like I said, only the 10 basic characters were on
the build we played.

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD*
Thanks Gondee!
Out of interest do you mean easier to see than ssx tricky split
screen? I always thought tricky kind of warped the perspective in
split screen, looked very strange, was this apparent in ssx3? Was
that what you meant?
I have a nice widescreen tv at home
which is gonna be peachy for ssx 3 ;)
Do you think that you
will be able to do the fabled 30 min run in 2 player or will the
streaming technology die when one guy hangs around at the top of
peak 3 and the other one is in metro city? Did you just select
individual races to do in multiplayer (more menu based like ssx and
ssxt)?
Thanks again!

Yeah, I'm also interested to know if you could
do the 30 minute race in two player?
I also want to know if
other boarders will race you during the 30 minute run (should be
called TMR for short...)?

questions anymore... :( So, what's a cab? It's on the fav. tricks

I was just wondering what all the SSX3
testers thought of the camera angles. It seems like those who have
the demo enjoy the game immensely, but say that the biggest problem
is the camera angles. I'll post the link below. The mention of
camera angles starts on page 2, I believe.

I'm reading what you guys are saying and I'm like "What
the heck are they talking about?" It sounds like you all got a
terrible demo - none of us had ANY problems with camera angles at
all. At all. And tricks are just fine, but a little slow on base
level characters.

On my demo there seemed to be some preety bad
collision detection problems.I would hit trees without even meaning
to.Also recovery from wipeouts was completly horrible.I would
unintentionally* mess up a trick and I would rolling and fliping on
the ground for approx. 10 seconds.10 SECONDS!! Don't get my wrong
gondee I still think this game is going rock the cheese or maybe
even the whole cow(dairy products) I'm just saying they could fix
things up a little. Oh and by the way, yes, I am this random in real

Well, that sounds nothing like the game we
played, does it guys? Our game had no problem with cameras and while
the build we played did have slight collision detection problems, it
wasn't to the extent that you've described.
Seriously you
guys, you all have nothing to worry about with this game. Do you
think EA would spend two years making it and NOT perfect things like
the camera and collision detection? --- Think you're good at

In the demo they are small and crammed, reminding you a lot of

the demo somehow and compare and contrast the demo with the actual
