1. Will there be a time trial mode? With an
*unobtrusive* timer? Will there be a "ghost" rider that mirrors your
current best? This would be an invaluable tool for all the 'lil
FirebrandX's around.
2. Will there still be "rubber band
A.I.," where computer players get a speed bonus based on how far
ahead of them you are? |

1. Will there be a time trial mode?
We certainly hope so. There are situations when you have
to race a character down to the end of the mountain, but no "formal"
time trial mode. I don't remember if anyone made the request to the
programmers. I know I didn't.
Will there be a "ghost"
rider that mirrors your current best?
If the programmers
take our suggestions to heart, there will be. We mentioned it and I
wrote it out on our suggestions forms and I think FBX may have
written something similar. They seemed very interested in it, but
didn't get a definitive yes or no as to whether it would be
implemented. It would be invaluable to beat your current times, like
you said.
2. Will there still be "rubber band A.I.,"
where computer players get a speed bonus based on how far ahead of
them you are?
NO, and Thank God, heheh. We definitely
"yelled in their ear" about our hatred of rubberband AI. Instead,
they base it on established routes, and the higher ranking computer
riders vary little from the fastest routes while the lower ranks do,
making them easier to beat. FBX can expound on this even more than I
can, because he really went in-depth with this. --- Think

Well, it seems that the team that has already
played SSX3 made a decision to not answer any questions about
"secret characters." That's fair. What of questions in the abstract?
Like, assuming there are secrets characters, were you all able to
play them, or are you merely aware that they exist?
Second,
I'm very interested in the soundtrack. Can any of you recall any
specific songs or elaborate on some of your impressions regarding
the SSX3 music?
Thanks a lot guys. This topic is
great.

Is there a
taunt button? I really want a taunt button or someway you can taunt
other players. I mean, why should passing people give a random
chance of saying one of the hundreds of different quotes the
character can say? Having a taunt button would be a nice touch,
especially when SSX3 does online... How can we taunt FBX?
:P
Also, what is the purpose of the right stick, now that
combat is restricted to the R1 and R2 buttons? Camera?
What
are you thoughts on this new R1/R2 combat system? Is it better than
the right stick, or worse?
With this new combat system, can
we even push in front of us or behind us?
That's all for now.

Hmmm, vacation time?
Anyways, I was just
wondering if SSX3 will have any songs by Bif Naked (Zoe's voice
actor).. I think they should... I dunno which of her songs will be
fun to snowboard with. Although I haven't listed to all of her songs
(I can't say I listened to any more than 10 of her songs), I think
"I Love Myself Today" or "I Died" would be good songs to snowboard
with...
I have yet to get a good copy of the black eyed peas
song (although I've only tried once) but it sounds pretty

I was just joking!
No taunt. But if you
want to do so to FBX online, just yell through a headset!
The
right stick is now nose/tail presses. And yes, the new placement for
pushing is very awkward and I was extremely frustrated. The only way
I got a knockdown was running into players on accident. And powering
up wasn't too great. But I guess you can work around it...
I
don't know much about music, I wasn't paying too much attention to
the box in the corner that told you the song. Queens of the Stone
Age and Clipse is about it. And yes, the Black Eyed Peas' song is
awesome. Unfortunatly, I deleted my good copy, and all the Kazaa
ones are bad...
To tell you the truth, I don't remember
hearing the seductive woman at all. But DJ Atomica is a welcome
addition. |

Here's a couple of quick questions. The first
one is with regard to upgrading stats for your characters. Do you
have a limited amount of "attribute points" that you have to
carefully use, or do you eventually acquire enough points to be able
to max out all the stat attributes for all the characters over
time?
Secondly, I was just curious about SSX 4. Since this is
definitely planned to come out, did anyone at EA say if this game
will be coming out on the PS 3 and the rest of the upcoming
generation of consoles?
Thanks!! :) |

Dreaming Gamer,
I don't think any of us
played the same character long enough, and via the proper
challenges, to be able to tell how exactly the stats thing is going
to work... And plus, as we all quickly shifted to a cheat mode, we
kept picking (or at least I) Character of Level 10... So I'm not
really sure how this is all going to work in the final build, maybe
somebody can tell you a little more here...
As for your other
question, yes, SSX 4 is definitely in the work, and it will come out
on the mega-powerful PS3!!! (Just try to imagine how the game is
going to look... Like another game revolution, probably far beyond
everything we can think
of!)

Thanks for answering my latest
questions, Grandmort. :) I've got four new ones.
1). Did
anyone at EA say if there'll be a game manual for SSX 3 - one
hopefully containing lots of game and character artwork?
2).
Will concept art/sketches/fanart be included in the game or posted
on a special website? Namco did this in the "Gallery" section of
Soul Calibur.
3). It's been mentioned before, but did any of
you notice if smaller characters like Griff actually do pass more
easily under obstacles, while tall characters like Nate have a
higher reach in snagging floating bonuses? In other words, even if
the in game character model sizes are different in SSX 3 (as opposed
to Tricky), are the "collision fields" also different? I also asked
this on the SSX 3.com message board, but thought I'd include it here
too. :)
4). Finally, is EA eventually planning promotional
SSX 3 tournaments?
Thanks again! :) |

1). Did anyone at EA say if there'll be a
game manual for SSX 3 - one hopefully containing lots of game and
character artwork?
Of course there will be a game manual,
heheh. But more important is that there will be a Prima guide
-that's the BIG source of great character art.
2). Will
concept art/sketches/fanart be included in the game or posted on a
special website? Namco did this in the "Gallery" section of Soul
Calibur.
The programmers said that concept art and
sketches will be included in the unlockable items, including some
special commissioned pieces as well. I don't want to spoil it, but
it's by an professional artist who's done SSX Tricky art before.
3). It's been mentioned before, but did any of you notice
if smaller characters like Griff actually do pass more easily under
obstacles, while tall characters like Nate have a higher reach in
snagging floating bonuses? In other words, even if the in game
character model sizes are different in SSX 3 (as opposed to Tricky),
are the "collision fields" also different?
That will
probably be the case, as size is the only discernable difference
between the characters. It's also possible that larger characters
will have more "mass", meaning they will flip slower even if they
all have the same trick skill. This is the case in Tricky.
4). Finally, is EA eventually planning promotional SSX 3
tournaments?
If I remember this correctly, FirebrandX
asked this question and they said there would be online tournaments
- whether or not they are promotional (meaning with prizes and
whatnot), I didn't hear anything about that. It is possible, of
course. At this point I think everything is still being planned.

Are there other events which are not
described? You mean events like Slopestyle, etc? No, the four
main: racing, slopestyle, big air, and superpipe are the main ones.
But there are BIG challenges that add a whole bunch of variety to
the events and courses.
Do all the peaks have roughly the
same number of events?
The later ones have more. I think
Peaks 2 and 3 have 7-9 courses apiece. Krispy may be able to
remember better than I would.
Um, are there secret
characters?

I'm lacking of information on this game..

1] Did you find any glitches on your way down the
tracks?
2] Is there a point limit on SSX3 (some games have
999.999 as the limit or something like that, what about SSX3?)
Hopefully it will be like in Tricky, no limit!!
3] I may have
missed this one on my way to the end of this topic, but i just ask
again, is it possible to play 1v1 on all types of styles/modes and
stages/tracks, or?
4] How is the internet thing going to
work? Will the game lag when you play online? What if both have
dial-up connections and plays online? Will it lag then?
5]
Since you guys played with cheats, what was the highest score you
guys and girls got on each type of mode and track?
6] Is it
possible to choose more than 1-2 musics to have bangin in the
background on each track when you ride down?

Yeah, it would be cool if all of the Tricky
levels came back remodeled a bit as unlockable extras... Might be
cool, no?
Anyways I have some more questions.
- I'm
gonna reask this one in case anyone forgot about it. Are the basic
tricks customizable (like Flying Squirrel and Nosegrab)?
- Is
there a way to check behind you using the camera? I've been playing
Tricky and if you have people after you, it would be to your
advantage to see 'em before they come at you. Plus the backward
camera can be useful in racing to see how far everyone else
is...
- Will the DJ guy say "It's getting intimate out
there." ever? I find that to be one of the most annoying quotes in
Tricky... Especially when Rahzel repeats it right after saying
it.
- Did EA meantion anything about playable demos being out
soon for the public? It would be nice to play SSX 3 a bit before
getting the game. I got a Downhill Demolition demo (actually they
sent me two) and hopefully they're send out SSX 3 demos before SSX 3

Cool! It's good to see that the SSX 3 online
portion will be available to both dial-up and broadband users.
Thanks, Gondee. :)
Like elgen, I wonder how EA will handle
the differences in connection speeds. Will the game only allow you
to connect to users having similar internet connection speeds, or
will there be various "rooms" or areas from which you can either
engage with or invite others having similar internet connections?
Maybe this is something Sony Online has already handled. Never
having played online with the PS2 before, I wasn't sure how that
works.
One more real quick question. Will the uber trick
motions be as fast or faster than those in Tricky? From the videos,
it appears this will probably be the case, but I remember some of
you mentioning the sluggish spinning in the version you
played. |

Will the game have a "restart level" option (I
don't remember what exactly this was called in Tricky)? Basically,
the option to restart the level from the beginning if you screw up
on a course. If so, how does this work on the non-even
areas?
Did you hear about some of the non-game unlockables?
Obviously there are pictures but will there be things like
behind-the-scenes stuff and interviews? Basically, stuff like the
DVD Extras on Tricky? If so, can you tell us some?
I forget
if you mentioned this before, and if you have I apologize, but is
there a bar or something on the side that keeps track of how far
ahead various people are during a race (much like Tricky)? If so,
how did it work with the multiple route idea? IS it going to be like
Tricky were one icon zooms ahead of everyone then instantly falls
behind?
Did Ryan Wall (and Bif Naked to an lesser extent)
change their voice/speech patterns to go along with the changes in
their SSX Characters (Mac being older and not the kid any more and
Zoe being more crazy and less hardcore)? Also, did you notice some
rivalry between Griff and Mac since Griff is kinda take the place he
had in previous games? Notice any change in the Kaori and Mac
relationship (since there were small hints of flirting and dating in
Tricky)?

"Did Ryan Wall (and Bif Naked to an lesser

-Excellent question. I would like to hear the answer to
this! On a more general note, the rivalries are still there,
correct? Was there any word on whether we'll see dialogue between
the characters in non-play time? (I believe someone asked this, but
I can't remember how long ago or if anyone responded.) Assuming
there are rivalries, we know how enemies behave, but will friends
behave differently and watch our backs? Maybe I'm just thick, but I
never saw any difference in having someone labeled as a "friend"
(compared to a "neutral" competitor) in Tricky.
"...but 1 vs
1?that's kinda useles sinds I can always play 1 vs 1 with a
friend.."
-True, but with the on-line mode you don't have to
sacrifice half the TV screen (which is a real pain, unless you have
a very large and/or widescreen TV), plus, your friend might not be
available at the times you want to play, and if your friend eats
your last slice of pizza, you might wanna play with someone else
instead. :o)

I have a few questions that I haven't seen here
yet:
-Does the announcer make fun of you when you fall down,
like in SSX?
-Do you get the cool phrases when you take a
shortcut or get big air? ('your destiny shall be fulfilled,' 'ok for
takeoff' etc)
-I noticed in some of the video clips on
ssx3.com that when the characters land after doing a trick, they
often look like the board is going to slip out from under them and
they fall backwards, but catch their balance. (it's really obvious
in the 'Happiness' video) Is it really like that in the game or is
this player just landing their jumps badly? It's
distracting.
Thanks! I'm so psyched about this game.

hoo!
Are the basic tricks customizable (like Flying
Squirrel and Nosegrab)?
No, not as far as I remember. You
cannot alter the basic grabs, just assign Ubers to the existing
grabs.
Is there a way to check behind you using the
camera?
The programmers talked about this at length, and
concluded that just not that many people used it to make it worth it
to include. So no, I don't believe that it is.
- Will the
DJ guy say "It's getting intimate out there." ever?
DJ
Atomica is not like Rahzel, so he doesn't really give play by play
using generic canned phrases like Rahzel did. At least, I don't
remember him doing so. Krispy, did DJ Atomica give updates on close
races?
Did EA meantion anything about playable demos
being out soon for the public?
No, but there is a topic
on this board that says that PSM will have a demo disc of SSX 3 in
September. I don't doubt it.
Will the uber trick motions
be as fast or faster than those in Tricky?
We mentioned
that basic spinning (using left or right on the control pad) was
very sluggish, but that's already fixed. Ubers are pretty much the
same basic speed as befoer (around a second for the fast ones,
longer for the higher scoring ones.) The only difference is that all
Ubers are holdable now.
Will the game have a "restart
level" option?
Yes. Whether or not you have to finish a
course first, I can't remember, but it will be in there.
Did you hear about some of the non-game unlockables?
Obviously there are pictures but will there be things like
behind-the-scenes stuff and interviews? Basically, stuff like the
DVD Extras on Tricky?
There may be things like that, I
would count on it. It doesn't seem like it's that far of a stretch
to do, and I believe I remember them saying that they'll be movies
of the sort in the game. But what I heard was in passing so take
what I say with a grain of salt. There won't be any "exclusive DVD
content" like the previous game, but there may be unlockable stuff
of the sort.
Is there a bar or something on the side that
keeps track of how far ahead various people are during a race (much
like Tricky)?
That bar isn't in this version, though in
most racing modes there is a percentage meter that lets you know
what percentage of the race you've finished.
Did Ryan
Wall (and Bif Naked to an lesser extent) change their voice/speech
patterns to go along with the changes in their SSX Characters (Mac
being older and not the kid any more and Zoe being more crazy and
less hardcore)?
Yes, they both did. The producers seemed
very keen on them toning it down considerably. Bif Naked's stuff is
very mild in general. Didn't hear Mac that much - might ask Krispy
about that.
Also, did you notice some rivalry between
Griff and Mac since Griff is kinda take the place he had in previous
games? Notice any change in the Kaori and Mac relationship (since
there were small hints of flirting and dating in
Tricky)?
There were no "character interactions" in the
game at the time. It would be nice if what you said appeared in the
game though, heheh.

Does the announcer make fun of you when you
fall down, like in SSX?
I don't think so. Could be wrong
though. Once again - maybe Krispy knows.
Do you get the
cool phrases when you take a shortcut or get big air? ('your destiny
shall be fulfilled,' 'ok for takeoff' etc)
Yeah, the
character still have the same sort of sayings they do in the first
game.
I noticed in some of the video clips on ssx3.com
that when the characters land after doing a trick, they often look
like the board is going to slip out from under them and they fall
backwards, but catch their balance. Is it really like that in the
game or is this player just landing their jumps
badly?
Yeah it's like that. I believe that's what happens
when you don't land perfectly. When you do, you get a money bonus
and it's a lot tougher to land a trick, so when you don't land it
perfectly that's what happens. --- Think you're good at SSX

One last big question (for now). Do the BIG
challenges count as the other modes? Meaning like if we do one
simple race at wherever, will that be one of the BIG challnges?
Also, when we decide to play as another character, do we have to do
all of the races and BIG challenges all over again? I think we would
have to do the races all over again, but I wanna make sure if we
have to do all the BIG challenges over again...
Also, can we
customize Mac so he has a buzz cut (or whatever he had in SSX/T)? He
looks wierd now but I think I can get used to his new hairstyle but
I'm wondering if he has his old one(s)... --- Don't be reading

Well looky here 400!!!
S'pose I should
find sumf'n else to ask...........
*insert think
time*
Okay, I got one. Where did EA get the idea that people
don't use that "look behind" button? They had this in the first SSX
which I thought was very slick and they also had that single button
press that would change camera angles. I know I used the different
views all the time but not so much in Tricky 'cos it's too much of a
pain to go thru the menus to do it.
Okay, that's not much a
question, but I think I'm all questioned out. The game comes out
soon enough, and whilst I'm really pumped about it, am more looking
forward to enjoying the experiences of the game first hand rather
than try and see it thru the eyes of others.
The thing that
worries me though is that with the first 2 games I had the
opportunity to enjoy them for what they. I then found this site
which helped further the experience due to competition element. I
only hope with SSX3 I don't move too quickly into this second phase
and miss out on much of what the game truly has to
offer.
