Although I haven't seen any preview version of
the game, I think it's safe to say the question of whether or not
there's extra characters in SSX 3 has been answered. Here's another
article from GameSpot that was cited earlier when this question
arose in a different
thread:

Other
than that, we'll just have to wait and see. ;) |

Psymon. *lol* ;)

Luther's always talking about "gettin' his name

*lol* Well...in the interests of modesty,
this version would have to strategically locate his cap somewhere
else. ;)

As for the hidden/extra characters, there's a
pretty good chance that there are gonna be more characters. However,
I think you should drop the subject for awhile. We're not getting
any answers from anyone yet, so just wait and be surprised. I think
it would be better off to find out about the hidden characters as
you play the game...
This brings another problem. When SSX3
comes out, I imagine that there's gonna be alot of topics like "How
do I unlock _____" or "I unlocked _______!". These topics will spoil
the game for those we don't have it yet at that time or aren't that
far in the game. I would not want to stop visiting one of my
favorite games' boards just because I might get spoiled...
I
can't wait until October 14th! Although I hate it cause it's exactly
a week after my birthday and seem stores might not have it out on
the 14th. :( Oh well... --- Don't be reading this! Go back to

First off, thank you to all the lucky pupils who
got to go to EA Canada, and then had the goodness to return and post
tons of juicy info and respond to endless questions. I've been
lurking here since page 1, so I figured I'd finally join in, as I
love SSX and SSX Tricky.
I don't know if this is already
common knowledge or not, but a website is up: www.ssx3.com It has
pictures of the characters and views and VIDEOS of the different
terrain. Lots of the links there simply read "No Access," but it's
still rather nifty.
I have a question for the gamers: Is
that really what Kaori looks like? I guess she looks nice, but she
really resembles a bird. I'm by no means ornithophobic (can I say
that on this board without being banned? "Ornithophobic"? Woo!), I
just think she looks a little funny.
Also, one question
regarding the music: I heard this game has abandoned the rap and
techno route for a more rockin' soundtrack. I think that's cool, but
it would be nice if there was still some variety. Is this game
completely devoid of non-rock genre music, such as hip-hop,
electronica, techno, etc.?
. . . .
NYAAAHHH!! I hate
responding to myself, but before posting this I checked out the
terrain videos, and I heard a non-rock tune (I'll check out the rest
ASAP!). That answers my question.
One last question: Does
anybody here actually snowboard? :o)

WOW!!!! I've been watching more of the videos at
the site, and unless you're of the anti-spoiler persuasion, these
videos are nuts!!! The music sounds supercool too, even the rock
stuff (which I was a little hesitant about, fearing the rock coming
across as cheesy).
I have another question though: how many
different rail ubers does each character have? Are the rail ubers
character-specific, or do all characters perform the same ubers as
each others once the start grinding?
Also, was there any
mention of changing the X's back to snowflakes, or are the X's and
snowflakes entirely different things? (I remember a post about this,
but I'm not exactly in the most eager mood to search the last 27
pages for the lone, relevant post!)
Also, does Viggo speak
his native language in the game, or is Kaori the only rider speaking
her own language (which is not English). I really missed the
international flavor of the original SSX game in that respect, when
'acclimating' and then learning to love Tricky.
Just some
more info from the site. It reads,

Kaori looks better in the game, when she's
loosened up and speaking. I actually like her more now than
ever.
There is still techno music and the Black Eyed Peas
were a hip-hip group the last time I checked, so you get a little
bit of everything.
There are no character specific ubers,
and I think they repeat themselves throughout the characters, but
they are so much fun to do and look at I wasn't noting the
specifics.
The snowflakes have been replaced by a horde of
new shapes. You could make an SSX cereal with all of
them.
Viggo does not speak his native language, and as you
might have noticed, this angers us. Allegra doesn't speak French
either, but that wasn't her ball game from the start. Yes, it's sad
how the multi-culture is fading, but I also think the producers have
to look at the lasting power of steriotyped, accented
characters.
I'd say the 1000 items ranges through all the
characters. But then again... |

Hi Krispy! You're the one with Carl Lewis for a
dad, no? ;o) Wish I coulda' seen it.
You wrote, "There are

throughout the characters, but they are so much fun to do and look
at I wasn't noting the specifics."
It that a response just
concerning rails, or all ubers in general? Or, like you wrote, is
that just something you didn't take note of?
Also, thanks
for the reassurance on Kaori. Come to think of it, I thought Mac
looked a little goofy in the selection section of Tricky, but once
he was on the slopes - and even in his little movies when you gained
a new ranking - he looked just fine.

Carl Lewis? anyway.
There are no
character specific ubers at all, and it's the rail ubers that are
the same for everyone, I think. Unless they are customizable like
the regular ubers; but I didn't mess around with it. Hope others can
clarify. |

"There are no character specific ubers at
all"
Uh-oh.
Maybe I should try to clarify this. What I
mean by character-specific uber is, for example in SSX Tricky, if
I'm playing Mac, and hit both right-side shoulder buttons while
maxed out, Mac does his Walking the Dog uber trick. Nobody else does
a Walking the Dog (I think), so it is a character-specific uber. If
I hit double right shoulders with Kaori, she would do a different
uber trick (not Walking the Dog). So, everyone just does the same
tricks even at the uber level? (Or, perhaps I should say 'first uber
level' for SSX3? I dunno.)

No. Not all characters have the same ubers. They
do share many initially, but there is some variety among them.
Besides, you can CUSTOMIZE them after you have enough money and
unlock them all.
I believe they'll have customizable rail
ubers. It just makes sense that they would be - since they have many
different categories of ubers on the customization screen depending
on the button you assign them to. I'm sure there will be a generic
"rail" category as well. --- Think you're good at SSX Tricky?

game: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3041178845&category=27186
Yes,
we have the same idea on what character-specific ubers are. This
doesn't mean they are gone, but this time everyone can do Elise's
LaLa Lockestep. We were told they were given up for the sake of
"Monster Tricks" to be the ultimate ubers. The monsters are
triggered by doing two ubers in a row that go perfectly together and
this fuses them into one seemless, awesome trick. Or at least that's
how I understood it. The game will tell you when you did one. After
doing all 24, off a list, you get some kind of prize... |

With the exception of the Kaori image krispy
mentioned, I thought the in game version of Kaori (especially during
the character interaction cutscenes) was usually better than the SSX
Tricky CG art of Kaori. Similarly the in game version of Kaori
should be better than the little bit of CG art we've seen of her so
far, which is the point krispy's been saying all along.
:)

possible spoilers later on, ViviFF, I'd assume that anyone posting

Depends on what type of gamer you are and how
familiar with the previous games you've become. It is fun (and
daunting, really) to begin to explore the game at first. I was
really interested in the new stuff the characters have after I raced
a while.
There's so much to do, so much to find, and so much
to look at I think there will be something for everyone. When you
get tired of one thing, you can always do the next.
After a
while, I'm sure the competitive nature of gamers will take over, but
there's also the "Collections" and adventure aspect of the game as
well, so you'll be playing this for a while.
Also, for what
it's worth, I've heard back from a few programmers who say they're

Dunno if this has been asked before but what is
the difficulty level of the game? Is it overall easy, so-so, hard,
or worse yet, frustrating? Or does it increase as you move on with
the challenges? If it does increase, how easy are the first
challenges and how hard are the later challenges? I wanna have fun
with this game instead of being frustrated.
About those
secrets that you know, how hard is it to unlock them? Is it like
after you complete a certain percentage or get a certain amount of
medals that they are unlocked? Or is it on a frustrating, advanced
level like you have to run down a 2-minute track in 50 seconds or
less...?
How are the opposing characters's dressing styles?
Do they change as you move on or are they always the same? If they
change, are they randomly selected or are there pre-set outfits for
them? Also, if there are hidden characters, once you unlock them,
will they race during the races or are you stuck racing against the
same 10 characters?
This game supports two-player mode,
right? If so, can both players do all of the modes together? And if
so, are other AI opponents sacrificed (like instead of 3 characters
in Slope, you only get the two players?)
Are there single
event sections like you can just pick your character, pick your mode
and pick your track and then play? Or do you have to get thrown out
in the World Circuit gameplay and you have to adventure yourself to
the races yourself?
Is there any sort of Trick Book in SSX3?
I've heard there's a list of Uber Tricks to be done but is this
it?
Lastly, are there gonna be any different board type
styles or is it just Freestyle or BX? Plus, boards don't give any
stats, right? So you can freely select which board design you want
and race with it w/o suffering stat losses right? BTW, no Uber
Boards, right? :) --- Don't be reading this! Go back to the

Couple more questions regarding the
weapons:
When you have a weapon and/or accessory, your
character's hands are not completely free to execute all of the
possible tricks, right? So using a weapon will limit the character's
tricks and ubers, right? Unless they have unique tricks and ubers
instead...
When you have a weapon, is it always in the
character's hand? Or can some pocket their weapon? For example, Zoe
might be able to pocket her wrench and pull it out to attack people
when the time comes, so her hands are free for tricks. Can you do
that?
This is not really a question, but a whip would be an
awesome weapon to have in this game, don't you
think? --- Don't be reading this! Go back to the

I don't feel like cutting and pasting, so here
are a bunch of clean cut answers.
A picture of me?
maybe...
I'll let someone else go on about prewinding, but I
did it my old way of holding my thumb down on D-pad buttons. Some of
you have other methods.
The difficulty was varied for
everyone. I had every placement possible, and levels do get harder
as you go along. Although I did find the Metro-city level too easy,
I made a note that they should tweak the AI a little. And we were
having too much fun to be frustrated! So there!
We don't know
how to unlock secrets. We don't know if it's stricktly codes, your
allowed to enter a certain code at a certain time or it just
happens. But one of the designers had a cheat menu, where he picked
how the game was going to be different. That menu will probably be
in the final game, since it was stylized, unlike the debug menus.
There are no premade outfits, and you don't just unlock the
next thing on a list. You unlock each pair of pants, shirt, jacket,
shoes, gloves, hair-do, hat, backpack, facepaint, mask, etc.
seperatly, and you get to pick which you unlock when. They do get
crazier as you go along. I'd like to think you don't go back to the
generic outfit when you restart, and definitly not some tacky random
one. You need money from collecting it, doing tricks in the
backcountry, or otherwise to unlock.
Hidden characters?
Racing you? How absurd.
All modes can be done together,
except maybe Superpipe. Is the last player trashed in Slopestyle?
Help!?
Yes, in single event, now single session, you pick a
character and then a track off a list. These tracks will only be
there once you've been at that track in "Counquer the Mountain"
mode.
There is no official trick book, but several various
lists of items found and ubers that unlock different secret things,
that we don't know about, when completed.
No new types of
boards, and no boring ultimate boards (I think?)You still choose
from various BX, Freestyle, and Alpine boards but more at your will
this time around. They don't have stats.
I think this weapon
aspect is taken a little too far. Weapons are just various add ons
such as boomboxes and cellphones. You can't put them away, and they
don't to anymore than the previously mentioned objects. There is no
"weapon" section under character set-up. We don't know if they
change the tricks, and they only help you knockdown opponents
because it makes the arm area of the character model
bigger.
Now to get some shut eye!

Back from vacation, to more questions! Woo
hoo!
Dunno if this has been asked before but what is the
difficulty level of the game?
It depends on your skill
level of course, and the difficulty of each track was still being
determined. That was one of the things they really wanted our input
on.
About those secrets that you know, how hard is it to
unlock them?
We don't know. They were all unlocked via
debug or cheat menu for us. No word on how they would actually be
unlocked in the game.
How are the opposing characters's
dressing styles? Do they change as you move on or are they always
the same?
They may change, I suspect they would. But a
lot of the characters we raced against just had their basic outfits
- that area wasn't 100% complete yet. Not sure about who races what
race and when.
This game supports two-player mode, right?
If so, can both players do all of the modes together?
Yeah, you can play versus mode. Whether or not there are
any less boarders during that mode, if it's in versus, it's just you
versus the other person in slopestyle - no one else. In racing,
there are 6 boarders like usual.
Are there single event
sections like you can just pick your character, pick your mode and
pick your track and then play?
Yeah, like Krispy said,
after you unlock them in "Conquer the mountain" they become
unlockable in the regular game where you can select them from a menu
and race them over and over.
Is there any sort of Trick
Book in SSX3?
No trick book whatsoever. Thank
God.
Lastly, are there gonna be any different board type
styles or is it just Freestyle or BX? Plus, boards don't give any
stats, right? So you can freely select which board design you want
and race with it w/o suffering stat losses right? BTW, no Uber

riders have blended spins together(ex:double backflip to a 540 in
one smooth animation),how is this done and what buttons do you need
to push.
You have to prewind tricks with the d-pad no
matter what. Left analog is only used for steering in the build we
got. In fact, I had a HUGE problem with that - I hate switching
between the two in the middle of a race. I usually steer with the
d-pad and so does FBX.
Not sure what you mean about the
tricks, but the flips/spins speed was still being tweaked.
When you have a weapon and/or accessory, your character's
hands are not completely free to execute all of the possible tricks,
right? So using a weapon will limit the character's tricks and
ubers, right?
No, the trick will still be there, the
characters arm will just stick in the same place and their body will
look strange, but it won't affect tricks I'm fairly certain. As far
as Ubers go, I don't think it will be all that strange and I don't
believe it will limit Ubers in the slightest. It's really just a
model change - they don't affect gameplay at all beyond the fact
that they may have better reach on certain weapons or they may not
be able to punch on one side with others (like Mac's jambox, he may
not be able to punch on the side he holds it with, though I could be
wrong.)
When you have a weapon, is it always in the
character's hand?
Yep - always there. It's a change in
the character's model in some cases.
This is not really a
question, but a whip would be an awesome weapon to have in this
game, don't you think?
Nate has a lasso - but I don't
think anyone has a whip. I'm surprised Zoe doesn't, mmrrowwrr!

One of my favorite weapons is Griff's morning
star. I loved the Castlevania series, so this was very amusing for
me to see in the game.

One last set of questions for the time
being:
Is there limit to how fast you can go? In Tricky it
was 74, can we go beyond that and keep on going in SSX3?
Are
there any preferred board types? I know it won't matter but I'm just
curious...
Last, for the money we collect, can we use it for
all of the characters or only with the character that collected it?
For example, if Mac beat an event and got $1000, can Kaori use it to
buy a backpack? I doubt it but just checking... --- Don't be

It's now 75, but that's the peak of the speed. The
75 MPH is actually a built-in system limitation that cannot be
exceeded.

I don't believe
there are, anymore. I didn't see any, anyway. It wouldn't make sense
for there to be under the new "flexible" rider system.

it?
Excellent question...you use it for everyone. That
way you can use your favorite boarder to collect all the goods
throughout the game.

To expand on what Gondee said, the reason the
speed never goes above 75 Mph is because of a safety feature that
limits how fast you are going. They said that if you were to go
beyond that speed, the system would not be able to calculate
collisions fast enough to keep up with you. In other words, you
would pass through solid objects in the game if you were to go 100
Mph for example.

Yeah thanks for the answers! :) One last
question (hopefully one of the last from me for awhile). How many
years does SSX3 take place after Tricky? 1 or 2? --- Don't be
